Founded over 75 years ago, Plan is one of the oldest and largest children’s development organisations in the world. We work in 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift millions of children out of poverty. In 2012, Plan worked with 84 million children in 90,131 communities. Plan is independent, with no religious, political or governmental affiliations.
What we do
Plan works in hard to reach and marginalized communities throughout the world. Plan works in an integrated way with other programs such as maternal health, early stimulation and learning, nutrition and breastfeeding, child protection, water and sanitation to increase the chances that a newborn child will reach its full potential.
Access to quality care from providers who maintain their skills is a priority along with increased coverage of clean safe delivery wherever a newborn is born, and to standardized postnatal care. Programs support mothers to exclusively breastfeed as most Plan supported areas in Asia have very high low birth-weight rates, and in some minority groups 0% exclusive breastfeeding rates.
