Summary

I n   O c t o b e r   2 0 0 9 ,   t h e   P o p u l a t i o n  Council conducted a formative study in rural UP with the following objectives:

(a) t o   e x p l o r e     t h e   c u r r e n t   s t a t u s   a n d postnatal care practices for mothers and newborns including care seeking for complications.

(b) to   id en t i fy  th e  ba r r i e r s  and   fa c to r s fac i l i tat ing  the  adopt ion of  heal thy postnatal care practices.

(c) to identify programmatic and behavior c h a n g e   c o m m u n i c a t i o n s   ( B C C ) ini t iat ive s   that could ac c e l e rat e   the  a d o p t i o n   o f   h e a l t h y   p o s t n a t a l   c a r e  practices.
