Three Nutrition Briefs: Identifying and addressing key barriers to maternal and infant nutrition

These briefs were produced by “USAID’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program.”

These three technical briefs provide a review of evidence on unaddressed barriers to maternal nutrition and weight gain during pregnancy, key barriers which impede initiation and continuation of exclusive breastfeeding for the full six months duration, and barriers and successes of implementation of community-based distribution (CBD) of iron-folic acid (IFA) supplementation in low and middle income countries.

The briefs also explore how countries are addressing these barriers (i.e. via country policies) and provide key considerations for program implementation.
