In Ethiopia, neonatal mortality remained high during the MDGs period and continues to be an agenda during the Sustainable Development Goals. To develop appropriate strategies and to reduce unacceptable high death rates having community level data on the magnitude and cause of neonatal death is essential. The analysis of trends and causes of under-five mortality generated by Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) from six networked Ethiopian Universities Research Centers indicates that neonatal mortality rate over five years period and the leading causes of death.
