Beena Kamath-Rayne, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She obtained a BS in Biological Anthropology/Anatomy and a BA in History at Duke University, her MD from Georgetown University, and her MPH from University of Colorado School of Public Health. She did her Pediatrics residency and Neonatal-Perinatal fellowship training at University of Colorado Health Sciences/Children’s Hospital Colorado. Prior to fellowship, she spent one year working as a general medical practitioner with Catholic Medical Mission Board at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Clinic in rural Ecuador, and another year working as a neonatal registrar/fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Westmead in Sydney, Australia. She has worked as a pediatrician and/or neonatal consultant in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ghana, Nepal, Peru, India, Honduras, and Tibet. She has published on neonatal outcomes after elective Cesarean section, respiratory distress syndrome in low-resource settings, and fetal lung maturity. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and member of the Society for Pediatric Research. She has been involved with Helping Babies Breathe since her fellowship. She is presently a member of the HBB Planning Committee, and was the Associate Editor for the Helping Babies Breathe Facilitator Video. She has taught HBB in Peru, Panama, and India, and is currently conducting a research study on HBB in Honduras.
