Dr. Socorro De Leon-Mendoza is a practising neonatologist in the Philippines for over 20 years. She is currently President of the Kangaroo Mother Care Foundation Philippines, Inc., which she founded in 2008, after retiring from public service, in particular at the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, the pioneer center for KMC in Manila. Also a retired Asst. Professor of Pediatrics at the Far Eastern University –NRMF, she continues to focus her efforts on clinical training & education of pediatric doctors, nurses & midwives in the field of newborn care. Her expertise in organizational development & management is a quality she has consistently shown having been at the helm of professional organizations such as the Perinatal Association of the Philippines, the Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine, the Institute for Reproductive Health Philippines, Inc., and most recently the Federation of Asia Oceania Perinatal Societies. Because of her pioneering & continuing work on Kangaroo Mother Care since 1999, her name has become almost synonymous with KMC in the Philippines.
