Rachel Whelan

Rachel Whelan, MSc, is a researcher at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. She currently works with the Project to Advance the Health of Newborns and Mothers (Projahnmo), a large cluster randomized controlled trial in rural Sylhet, Bangladesh. The goal is to evaluate the impact of packages of obstetric and neonatal care practices, including community health education, provision of clean delivery, essential newborn care, and management of neonatal infections by first-line health workers on neonatal mortality rates and newborn care practices. Rachel's previous work evaluated the effects of environmental toxins on children's physical and social development in India, the efficacy of kwashiorkor treatment programs in Haiti, the logistics of emergency obstetrics in The Gambia, and attitudes towards intimate partner violence in refugee populations in Thailand.
