WHY: Pneumonia claimed the lives of 800,000 children under the age of five in 2018, or one child every 39 seconds. That was more than any other disease. Yet pneumonia remains largely forgotten.
WHAT: On January 29-31, nine leading health and children’s organisations – ISGlobal, Save the Children, UNICEF, Every Breath Counts, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ”la Caixa” Foundation, USAID, Unitaid and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance – will join forces in Barcelona to host the world’s first conference on childhood pneumonia.
Participants at the Global Forum on Childhood Pneumonia will agree on concrete steps governments and their partners can take to dramatically reduce child pneumonia deaths. Countries hardest hit by the disease are also expected to make major commitments.
