Ethiopia: The distances women travel for health services

Although Ethiopia offers free, universal primary health care, many women in rural Ethiopia have to walk long distances in order to access maternal health care.

Only 10% of women give birth with a qualified health worker present. A richer woman is over 20 times more likely than a poorer woman to have skilled birth attendance, and a woman living in an urban area is more than ten times more likely to do so than a woman in a rural area.
