On December 5, 2013 Nepal celebrated the 25th anniversary of its groundbreaking Female Community Health Volunteer (FHCV) program.
Since its USAID-supported inception in 1988, the FCHV program has proven to be a crucial factor in Nepal’s dramatic reduction in maternal and child mortality.
Designed to improve access to quality health services in the community, the program works through a network of local women volunteers. Currently, there are 52,000 FCHVs, who represent every ward of the country.
