A new video from Every Woman Every Child highlights the important work that skilled health professionals have had in making progress in maternal and child survival worldwide. However more than 40% of under five deaths occur in the newborn period, the first 28 days of life. Many of these are due to nonexistent or inadequate quality of care during pregnancy at birth and in the first few days afterwards. Feasible and cost-effective actions could help prevent the majority of these deaths.
