Newborn Care for the Syrian Crisis

The July 2012 technical consultation on neonatal health in emergency settings was a landmark event to advocate for the advancement of newborn health services in conflict settings. Since July 2012 the conflict in Syria has taken a toll on the wellbeing of newborns and children. The technical brief was developed by UNICEF, Save the Children, CDC, Women’s Refugee Commission, and Columbia University for the Syria context with the aim that this will lead to scale-up of quality newborn health services

The technical brief highlights:

  •  Main causes of newborn mortality in Syria
  •  Key interventions at the community/primary health and hospital level, and
  •  Newborn kits
