This toolkit presents a process and tools that can be used to conduct facility-level site assessment and strengthening with the goal of improving essential maternal and newborn care. Specifically, guidance is provided on measuring delivery of care, identifying gaps and opportunities for implementing certain MNH interventions. It includes guidance on a performance and quality improvement approach from a supervisory perspective, assessment tools, and lessons learned from implementing the PQI process in MNH and safe motherhood programs in over a dozen countries.
