The analysis was based on indicators and determinants related to newborn health and a conceptual framework was designed to identify the factors that could significantly impact newborn health directly and indirectly. The situation analysis involved extensive review of the literature, reports and other publications and personal meetings with individuals from various organizations. Although the focus of the analysis is newborn health, maternal health issues receive equal attention, because the health of the mother is a key determining factor in the health of the newborn.
