Globally, 43% of under-5 deaths happen in the first 28 days of life. The pace of reduction for neonatal mortality is 1/3 slower than for older children, limiting progress to MDG 4. Each year, 3 million newborns die around the world largely from preventable and treatable causes.
Visit HNN's Newborn Numbers to learn more about where, when, and why newborns are dying, and the progress that is being made to reduce these neonatal deaths.
