Complications from preterm births now outrank all other causes of death for young children. Of the more than 6.3 million deaths of kids under the age of 5 in 2013 more than 1 million resulted from preterm problems.
The study was released November 17th, World Prematurity Day. The vast majority of deaths due to preterm birth complications occured within the first 28 days of life. The audio report also discusses the new allocation of over $250 million for preterm birth research.
