  •     Raising public awareness and policy makers to the issues related with prematurity
  •     Joining research excellence in the search for answers on issues related with premature birth

What we do

XXS is a member of EFCNI – European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants, since the date of EFCNI’s foundation. It also has a cooperation agreement signed with the Section of Neonatology of the Portuguese Society of Paediatrics. XXS works with parents, healthcare professionals and the government to improve NICU care in Portugal. In March/2014, the Portuguese Government granted XXS a challenging project. It is the C.A.R.E. project (Cuidados de Apoio a Recém-nascidos Em risco), whose main objective is to provide specialized care for premature infants and support their parents. The project, resulting from a protocol with the Ministry of Solidarity, Employment and Social Security and the Ministry of Health, and having a partnership with the Section of Neonatology of the Portuguese Society of Paediatrics, is intended to support preterm infants and their parents , who need a specialized intervention for the development of skills and abilities that contribute to the promotion of inclusion and active citizenship throughout development of the premature baby. The C.A.R.E. project includes prevention campaigns, information and prematurity awareness, professionals and parents training encouraging the development of skills, the improvement of accommodation for parents in NICUs and the development of care specialized pilot projects focused on development.
