This session was a practical discussion on how to sustain and improve high-quality maternal and newborn health care to protect the lives and health of women and their babies.
To take forward the Every Newborn Action Plan endorsed by the World Health Assembly in 2014, there are four new coverage targets and nine milestones proposed for 2025. Increased coverage of care for the four new Every Newborn targets is essential for the attainment of the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health and Universal Health Coverage.
With only 10 years remaining to the SDG deadline of 2030, we need to accelerate progress and investment in maternal and newborn health to end preventable newborn deaths and stillbirths.

Ending preventable newborn deaths and stillbirths by 2030
A comprehensive, multi-partner initiative, the Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) calls on all stakeholders to take action to improve access to services and the quality of care for all pregnant women and newborns. ENAP was endorsed by 194 countries at the World Health Assembly in 2014 in resolution WHA67.10. A roadmap for action, ENAP charts the path towards ending preventable newborn mortality, reducing disability and ending preventable stillbirths.
