Deaths and illness by serious infections like sepsis — a major killer of newborn babies and in many cases resistant to antibiotics — can be prevented through WASH programs. Yet, only about 2% of health facilities in low and middle-income countries have adequate water, sanitation and waste management. This increases the risk of infections, particularly among newborns. Save the Children US works to reduce deaths and prevent illness through WASH programs that provide essential services at health facilities and communities at large.
