Simon Cousens

Simon Cousens originally trained as a statistician and is based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is a member of the Child Health Epidemiology Reference Group and has played a leading role in developing estimates of the distribution of causes of neonatal deaths. He has also contributed to the development of the Lives Saved Tool (LiST). He is currently involved in trials in Asia and Africa to identify simplified antibiotic regimens for the treatment of neonatal sepsis. He is also involved in work in Ethiopia to improve newborn care through Health Extension Workers, including a trial to determine whether using Health Extension Workers to treat newborns with suspected sepsis can reduce neonatal mortality.
